Hummer Could Potentially Shutdown

David Beckham, Arnold Schwar-zenegger, Fergie, and Shaquille O'Neal are just a few celebrities that own Hummers. In the last couple of years The Hummer has been criticized for being a gas-guzzling car. The car is known for its poor gas mileage; which only gets 18 miles per gallon on the highway.

Since this car is not following the trend of "going-green," it has resulted in the downfall of product sales and the brand could potentially shutdown. General Motors Co., who currently owns Hummer, was planning to sell the brand to a Chinese firm. This plan has just recently failed to be completed.

We are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed,'' said John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances. ''GM will now work closely with Hummer employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner.''

GM has been looking to sell the brand since last October because of the drastic decline of sales. Hummer sales peaked in 2006 when 71,524 Hummers were sold, but this was before gas prices skyrocketed. Last year only 9,046 Hummers were sold.

The Hummer was talking about creating a smaller model called the H4. This might have helped them compete with environment efficient cars that are so popular today, but the idea never went through.
